The
restaurant Caffé Italia is situated at the
corner of the Old Town Square and Týnská
Street in the premises of the house No.
604/I, so called Týn School, just below the
picturesque historical background of the Týn
Church. The first documentary evidence of
the building dates back to 1359 and 1363.
The
restaurant is divided into two parts – café
on the ground floor with an outside terrace
in the Old Town Square, which is opened all
year round. The outside terrace is heated
with gas radiators and protected against
wind and rain. Winding staircase leads from
the ground floor to the restaurant, situated
in the gothic cellar from the half of the 13th
century. Glittering candlesticks and piano
accompaniment contribute to the atmosphere.
An interesting thing of the restaurant is a
discovery of unmapped
historical
premises from the period around 1250
leading under the Týn Church. The premises
were covered possibly in the 17th
century and rediscovered during a
renovation
of the restaurant in 2008.
Restaurant is open daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Restaurant seats 50 people.
